LEAD COOK/CHEF

The Cadets are seeking a Lead Cook/Chef to create high-quality meals for athletic young adults, educators and support staff on the road based on organizational nutrition standards. As the Lead Cook/Chef, you will report directly to the Operations Manager to ensure that the kitchen is run efficiently and effectively. As Lead Cook/Chef with The Cadets, you will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel the country with an organization that is building leaders in the music education and performing arts landscape.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a weekly menu including breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks while following our Dietary Policy.
  • Work with the Operations manager to ensure all meals meet nutritional requirements.
  • Oversee a rotating staff of cooks and volunteers
  • Assign tasks to the volunteers, schedule their day according to the number of volunteers present, and the schedule for the day
  • Directly oversee all preparation of meals
  • Provide guidance, direction, and recipes to the volunteers
  • Provide meals for members/staff according to special needs (vegetarians, vegans, allergies, etc.)
  • Plan food orders and communicate to Operations Manager in a timely manner.
  • Prepare daily shopping lists for the Tour Runner.
  • Manage pantry inventory on the road.
  • Maintain organization of the truck (dry goods, refrigerator, cans, cookware, etc.)
  • Maintain a sanitary environment in the food truck.
  • Manage the packing and unpacking of the truck.
  • Train volunteers in safety and proper food preparation.
  • Provide customer service to the members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Keep an open line of communication with the Operations Manager.
  • Communicate any issues on the truck with the Operations Manager.
  • Other responsibilities as they develop, based on interest areas and organization needs.

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

The position will be structured around the corps’ summer tour and will require travel with The Cadets Drum Corps. The summer training camp and tour origination point will be in the Worcester, Mass. area. Ideally, the Lead Cook/Chef commits to working the entire tour. Scheduling flexibility to accommodate serious pre-existing personal or school-related commitments will be applied when possible.

COMPENSATION

This is a paid position with travel provided to and from tour, and all transportation, housing and food will be provided.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent work experience in field.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Ability to cook multiple meals for 200 plus people daily.
  • 2 or more years experience in food industry, tour experience is a plus.
  • 2 or more years experience in management, Catering experience is a plus.
  • Able to work in a fast paced and changing environment.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization skills, detail oriented, punctual, and flexible.
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently and manage others
