WHAT TO EXPECT AT HOMECOMING WEEKEND 2021
The Cadets are planning an event weekend in October that is not to be missed! Friends, food, and wine will highlight a reunion that will bring both joy and heartfelt tears to The Cadets’ family in attendance. John Hannigan, Cadets alumnus, former drum major, and co-organizer of The Cadets’ Homecoming event series, helped us put together this overview. Here’s a little taste of this fabulous weekend of events:
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9
THE LEGACY LUNCHEON
12:30 – 4:30 PM
We kick off the weekend with this high-end, gourmet luncheon at the spectacular VENETIAN in Garfield, N.J. An amazing selection of incredible foods and off-the-chart wines will be served, all while honoring four Legacy Cadets who have made incredible lifetime contributions to the drum corps activity and to our organization. The Legacy Luncheon will honor Art Mura, Anthony Bartello, Hugh Mahon, and Rich ‘Scotty’ McGarry, as guests enjoy a lavish meal in a private room at the Venetian. This very special event will be limited to 75 attendees. Representatives of The Cadets Board of Directors, Administration, as well as Corporate Sponsors of the corps will be in attendance.
THE HALL OF FAME CELEBRATION & BEEFSTEAK DINNER
7:00 – 11:00 PM
This event will be held at the VFW Hall on Outwater Lane in Garfield (the site of many past Cadets rehearsals). We will honor the Cadets Hall of Fame inductees from 2020 AND 2021. To make this event even more special, this year we’ve made it a BEEFSTEAK! If you have never been to a New Jersey Beefsteak, there is nothing — NOTHING — like it. They are unique to northern N.J. The combination of Hall of Fame celebration, all the filet mignon you can eat, and “towers of bread” at every table will make this an event not to be missed.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10
CADETS MASS AT MOST HOLY NAME CHURCH
10:00 – 11:15 AM
We start off Sunday with perhaps the most emotional event of the weekend. Regardless of your religious beliefs, this event will affect you spiritually and probably bring you to tears. We convene at the birthplace of The Cadets and honor the memory of our Cadets Eternal. The sight of a group of current Cadets wearing the time-honored maroon and gold at Holy Name Church is something you will never forget.
THE 87TH ANNIVERSARY CADET GALA AT THE BROWNSTONE
1:00 – 5:00 PM
This amazing event brings the story of The Cadets home, because it is not only The Cadets’ story, but the story of most of our friendships and lives. Together, we will celebrate 87 years of our Cadets family. We also celebrate the amazing 1987 Cadets in what many believe to be the BEST drum corps show EVER — it is truly a Copeland masterpiece and a Cadets masterpiece. Not to be outdone, this celebration will feature an absolutely amazing menu of foods which can only be described as, “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” The weekend culminates with a few special presentations and, of course, concludes with a chorus of our corps song, “O Holy Name.” All attendees will depart with renewed friendships and additional memories that will last a lifetime.
