The Cadets Athletic Trainer

The Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps is looking for a certified athletic trainer to provide professional services for our performing arts organization for the summer. Our student athletes include 154+ brass, percussion and guard performers ages 16-22.   

In the role of Athletic Trainer, you will report directly to the Operation Manger . You will also work closely with the Medical Professional to facilitate and manage the health needs of the corps membership for pre-tour and summer tour.  

Athletic Trainer Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and implementation of an athletic training program required for a drum corps including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for member-athletes. 
  • Provide patient education in the areas of sports injury prevention and care to include concussion management and more.  
  • Provide input to staff regarding winter conditioning and summer fitness workout programs as requested.  
  • Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the athletic training program. 
  • Attend rehearsals throughout the day and be on call during show warm-ups in the event of an emergency. Serve as a first responder and evaluate various injuries and medical ailments and follow us as necessary. 
  • Effectively communicate the plan of care and medical clearance status regarding member participation to Corps Director, Operations  Manager, and Caption Heads daily.  
  • Log and document all medical interactions and advise the Corps Director and Caption Managers on the status and recommendations for member health through daily written updates. 
  • Monitor and assist in the hydration protocol including filling jugs, transporting to and from the field and refilling when necessary.  
  • Responsible for inventory of Athletic Training supplies, communicating all supply needs to the Tour Manager. 
  • Will be an active participant in infection control in areas such as proper sanitation of work areas, good hand washing technique, decontamination of instruments/equipment, bus hygiene, jug and bottle cleaning etc.  
  • Maintain confidential and protected patient information.  
  • Be a team player by collaborating and communicating with other health care professionals.  
  • Perform all duties with the highest of ethical and professional standards utilizing the NATA Code of Ethics as the standard of evaluation.  

 

LOCATION and SCHEDULE  

The position will be structured primarily around the corps’ summer tour and will require travel with The Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. The summer training camp and tour origination point will be in the Worchester, MA area. Ideally, the Athletic Trainer commits to working the entire tour. Scheduling flexibility to accommodate serious pre-existing personal or school-related commitments will be applied when possible. 

COMPENSATION  

This is a paid position, with tour travel, housing, transportation, and food provided. The successful candidate will be provided transportation to and from the tour origination location. 

Qualifications

  • Age 25 or older 
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree, verified BOC certification, CPR/AED and First Aid certification (valid through August 2021), and current state licensure or proof of eligibility for practicum.   
  • Evidence of professional liability insurance.  

 

Experience

  • At least one year of participation in a performing arts unit desired, preferably with WGI and/or DCI components.   
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Proficiency with Google Products, Dropbox and Microsoft Office; strong email and written communication skills
