CDL Driver
The Cadets Drum Corps is in search of Non-CDL Volunteer Drivers for our Summer Tour. In the role of Non-CDL Volunteer Driver, you will report directly to the Transportation Manager.
Responsibilities

Inspect, verify and monitor the operational condition and safety of vehicle accessories and assigned vehicle and trailer daily, including performing mandatory pre- and post-trip inspections

Report findings to the Transportation Manager daily and correct any known issues that can be dealt with personally

Assisting/informing the Transportation Manager about all regular maintenance so it can be completed in a timely fashion

Report all accidents, complete required reports and cooperate with investigating authorities

Maintain cleanliness of vehicle

Interior and exterior cleaning will take place on non-driving days

Maintain ELD Compliance including fuel logs and vehicle maintenance records

Adhere to DOT Regulations at all times

ELD Logging must be used in accordance with regulations

Submit all logs daily and manual logs weekly to the Transportation Manager

Obey all traffic laws

Observe all mandatory safety regulations

Practice non-aggressive, defensive driving techniques

Attend driver meetings during the summer tour

Follow all COVID-19 protocol as set forth by corps management
Qualifications
-
Ability to safely, efficiently and courteously drive a box truck, RV sleeper with or without trailer, pickup truck, or high-top passenger van with or without trailer on all public highways and required private property, including cities and mountainous regions in all weather conditions

Work with corps personnel as a team. This requires the driver to coordinate activities with others and to function with others as a unit

English communication skills (written and oral)

Read and interpret maps, compass directions, 24-hour clock time, schedules and procedural instructions

Pass a background check, including driver history report

Applicants must be at least 25 years of age or older
Working Conditions
- Outdoor setting
- Driving a vehicle in variable traffic and weather conditions
- Majority of driving happens overnight (4 p.m. - 8 a.m.)
- Sleeper drivers will be able to sleep in their vehicle in a private bunk
- All meals are provided by The Cadets
- Passes to shows will be available when drivers are off duty
Physical Requirements
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information
- Seeing to perform assigned duties
- Sitting for extended periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate controls
- Kneeling; bending at the waist; and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to perform assigned duties
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Location and Schedule
The position will be structured around the corps’ summer tour and will require travel with The Cadets Drum Corps. The Spring Training and tour origination point will be in the Erie, Pa. area. We understand that giving an entire summer to the corps cannot work for everyone. The Cadets are happy to arrange for your pick-up and drop-off at airports to accommodate your volunteer schedule.
Compensation
This is an unpaid position, with tour travel, housing, transportation, and food provided.
Alcohol Policy
Consumption of alcohol or being under the influence of any illegal substances while with the program at a rehearsal facility, school campus, in your vehicle, or on tour will NOT be tolerated and is grounds for immediate dismissal.
The Cadets Drum Corps requires criminal background checks for all employees, independent contractors, instructional and administrative staff, and interns regardless of whether these are paid or unpaid positions.
